Fiesta Key RV Resort

A straight run after leaving the Florida Turnpike. Only problem that ran through my mind: Route 1...the only road in and out. Let's not even think of evacuation procedures.

324 sites on a 24 acre private island, Long Key, facing the Atlantic on
the east and the Gulf on the west.

Back to back graveled sites are tight.

One of the many cottages lined up on the other side of my street.

Other cottages along the waterfront are available; probably a tad more expensive?

This Thousand Trails/Encore campground has many amenities
that you can check out on their WEBPAGE.

My first two nights were windy enough for me not to extend my awning. Passing, intermittent showers through the night with an occasional thunderstorm along with the gentle rocking of Winnie was a pleasing sound and feeling. That weather pattern continued into the next day.

Winds from the east at 21 mph, gusts up 39.

Sunrise in the east (Atlantic)
On Thursday, it finally cleared up, the wind died down to the usual warm tropical breezes you'd expect and I was gifted perfect weather for the rest of the week. With daily temperatures in the 90s, my outside activities were limited...when it reached a high of 105ยบ. After my morning coffee, a few pages of Cryptograms, I took a walk to the marina and snapped some photos on the way.

Saturday night was special. Friends, Vicki/George and Tricia/Craig made the 30-mile trip north from their Big Pine RV Campground in Sunshine Key to have Happy Hour drinks, dinner and enjoy a sunset here at Fiesta Key's Tiki bar-restaurant Oceans 305.

Enjoying a Blue Dolphin...

...with Tricia, Craig, George and Vicki

I chose the grilled grouper with mashed potatoes and glazed fried plantains.

Afterwards, we moved to the beach area and, at 7:45 pm caught the sunset, 10-minutes later than back home.

Having viewed sunsets in California, (above)...

a sunset in the Gulf was different and special.
The same distances to the horizon not withstanding...the sunsets in the Gulf

..."seemed" or appeared closer.

Interesting formations on the many boulder size coral pieces.

Always on the look out for resident critters, all I spotted was this iguana scurrying beneath a fence....

...and a pair of doves.

The end of the week has arrived and tomorrow I disconnect and move on to Sun Retreats Lake Josephine in Sebring, Florida; a 240 mile, 4 hour (?) trip, the first of 3 overnights before arriving in New Orleans. Till next time, enjoy life, stay happy and stay safe.

In my opinion, this is the best place ever. I have yet to stay anywhere that comes close in comparison. ~ vc aka Feline Stella’s mom

  3. Yes, except for the heat, to be here puts a nice touch to the word, "paradise."

You made a great choice of campgrounds. So glad we could drive up to share a nice dinner. The views of this place is why I booked three weeks south of you this visit. Wish I could spend months here. ~ vc

  5. Yup! So glad it worked out...AND so glad you're taking advantage and spending three weeks. I know your love for traveling and I hope this gives you incentive to find other coastal locations on your way up to the northeast and then returning in the fall. Safe travels. Work on that blog to capture the memories.
